At the time of this piece I was enjoying all of the amazing things of the incredible city of Oaxaca, Mexico but still made time for the 79th edition of our 'Match of the Week' illustration series. I actually believe I did the drawing on a flight & the colouring late-night in our Oaxaca Centro hotel room following a good amount of Mexcal.

This crazy good Lucha Libre Espectacular 2/3 falls trios bout took place during our travels on March 28th, 2025 in CMLL at the one & only Arena Mexico.

This marked my 1st full week of being in Mexico & watching nothing but wonderful, live Lucha Libre Mexicana! So I felt it fitting that this weeks' edition should commemorate the main event of the first ever Arena Mexico event that I got the pleasure of witnessing in-person. And what a match it was!!

So firstly, I'd like to thank the amazing Alexis Salazar (@elfotografodelasluchas on insta) for his terrific reference picture (as always) that I based this one off of. I did take some pictures myself but Pro Wrestling photography really is its own art form in & of itself. So I could never measure up to those who focus purely on that.

This one was just so special in so many ways. I can't tell you how cool it was to walk into the doors of 'La Catedral' for the very first time. Then for the match to be as awesome as this was just icing on the cake. I think Rob Viper put it best when he noted that these are 6 guys who might never get to have a match with one another in a big Friday night Arena Mexico main event ever again, so they just put it all out there.

This rocked so hard! I've been impressed by him on the past but Zandokan Jr is now officially on my favs list. I've said before how incredible the current Mascara Dorada is (previously Panterita Del Ring Jr.) I'm also becoming a big fan of the king of crazy bumps (Mexican Chris Hamrick maybe?); Difunto. A freshly unmasked Star Jr was a real highlight as well. So much pressure for him in that first big Arena Mexico main event unmasked but I think he came off very well. Also so awesome to get to see KeMonito (albeit not the original but still way cool)!
