We're now up to the 95th addition to our 'Match of the Week' illustration series & this week I can't believe it, we've got a somewhat current big time American Professional Wrestling match on our hands!
This terrific Tag Team bout took place earlier this month on July 2nd in Ontario, CA. for AEW's big 100th episode of their Saturday Night Collision TV show.
So I heard this was fantastic, & you know what? It WAS fantastic! As frequently happens with these things, I'm quite the fan of all 4 of these gentlemen. But dang it if this didn't surprise even me!
I think a big part of my love for this match was the throwback nature of it. This felt like a proper Southern-Wrasslin' kick-ass Tag Team match of the 80s. This would have totally fit in to those prime Jim Crockett Promotions years! Or Watts' Mid South Wrestling or for Paul Boesch in Houston. The fire, the selling, the teases, the 'Crimson Mask' & just the really great Tag Team Wrestling chemistry on both sides really got me going. One of the best TV matches I've seen in a long time!
I often feel like an old man yelling at clouds these days about how everything used to be better in the Territory Wrestling days. But this one renewed my faith that there are some guys who still have that magic today.
More of this please! Bravo!! Easily the best thing I watched this week.
