We're up to the 107th edition of our 'Match of the Week' illustration series & this week we've got my official favourite match from this past Sunday's Wrestling Club at The Scratch Bar!
One of my very favourite Wargames matches ever took place on September 18th, 1994 at World Championship Wrestling's Fall Brawl 'War-Games' pay per view event at the Roanoke Civic Center in Roanoke, Virginia.
So I kind of planned out our whole Wrestling Club event around this match - including many incredible promos leading up to it from WCW SaturdayNight & dang it if the whole thing didn't come off even better than I'd hoped! It honestly brought me so much joy to get to enjoy this wonderful match & those all-time promos with such wonderful company! And man, when you watch it in context, this thing is definitely one of the most perfect matches of the WarGames gimmick that ever occurred! ...I mean aside from the ban on the blade that WCW had at this time I guess.
Everyone in this is perfect; from the fiery best of The Natural, to The Nasties being WAY better than anyone might remember, Dream being totally electric, & the Studd Stable just being one of the all time great heel factions. Special shout out to Buck, an all time performance of the Colonal (overcome by quite a significant amount of the vapours!) & of course just an all timer overall Funker experience!
I also really love this as a final nod to the amazing rough & ready 80s NWA Crockett house style in the wake of Hulk & friends arrival. So great!!
