Vader vs Cactus Jack (Way of the Blade Art Print)
"Big Van Vader vs Cactus Jack" - ink & digital illustration
WCW World Heavyweight Championship Match - WCW Saturday Night, 4.17.1993, Center Stage, Atlanta, GA
Another of my favourite illustrations from the original Way of the Blade book & another match (& feud) that is oh so wonderful!
As you may have noticed, I really do love me some Big Van Vader (as I do Cactus) & to say that these two brought the best out in one another is an understatement. These were two men who, safe to say, were not afraid of physicality in the world of Professional Wrestling. More than that, they fully embraced it & pushed it to a whole different level.
This would be the first singles match between the two in a rivalry that would go on to produce some of the most amazingly gruff matches in pro wrestling history. And they certainly start out with a 'BANG' here. Mick Foley would describe in his first book how he requested Vader to punch him in the face for real in this one ...& he sure did! It actually ended up being in such brutal & gore-ish fashion that the moment actually had to be censored on World Championship Wrestling television at the time. Only for the amazing uncut footage to be uncovered years later in a WWE Best of Foley documentary release.
I just totally love everything about this match. I point to amazing stuff like this whenever anyone attempts to disparage the good name of early 90s WCW. Totally groundbreaking stuff!
ENJOY!!!
