On the way to the upcoming Way of the Blade book sequel, here’s another flashback to an illustration & match that I’m very fond of from the original (from the great guys at Hybrid Shoot, written by the rad Phil Schneider, art by yours truly).
So this one has got to be on most folks’ lists of greatest ever World Wrestling Federation/World Wrestling Entertainment matches of all time! This absolutely wonderful ‘Bootcamp Match’ took place on June 16, 1984 at Madison Square Garden - the spectacularly rugged blowoff to the great America vs Iran feud between two totally iconic Professional Wrestling characters.
The perfect melding point of the less-than-subtle, over the top ‘Up North Territory’ style with the greatness of a classic, bloody ‘Southern-Wrasslin’ Memphis-style feud culmination brawl.
The intensity of this was just off the charts. The crimson was flowing. Amazing high drama storytelling. And man I absolutely loved the fighting over the loaded boot stuff throughout! This is just terrific in every way & I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who might not have seen it.
Easily one of the best matches of either men’s illustrious careers I’d say! The lead-up promos are absolutely incredible stuff too!
