Hi pals! Back again for the 46th edition of our regularly scheduled ‘Match of the Week’ illustration series & I’ve got more of that G1 goodness for ya!

This tremendously violent, yet technical & just wonderfully satisfying all-round bout took place on Day 13 of this years New Japan Pro Wrestling G1 Climax tournament from August 8th, 2024 at the fancy new Yokohama Budokan, in Yokohama, Kanagawa.

Now that we’re in the deep waters of G1 Climax 34, I’m delighted to say that I’ve absolutely loved this years G1 offering significantly more than I have in quite a few years. The extra-fresh lineup has resulted in some very enjoyable stuff! Last week I sung the praises of Yuya Uemura & Konosuke Takeshita as MVP’s (& rightfully so) but this week I’ve just been so impressed by ZSJ & Gabriel Kidd. These really are two of the key guys who’ve made New Japan one of my favourite things to watch right now. I’ve enjoyed his work for quite a while, but Gabe especially has raised his stock so very much of late. I see amazing things in his future as the gaijin to lead the new generation.

I absolutely adored this match. It provided such an interesting combination of styles, technique & told such a satisfying Professional Wrestling story of Zack enduring the firestorm of the hot-headed Kidd (including some blistering chops!), to wait for the perfect moment to launch his deadly attack. It’s also just so cool to see how beloved & respected Zack has become with the Japanese fans. As he should be. Zack might very well be the best in the world right now.
