Back again for the 47th edition of our ‘Match of the Week’ illustration series & after some serious deliberation, todays choice ended up being the ‘main event’ of this past weeks’ Wrestling Club w/ Chris Things event & a bloody doozy of a match if I do say so myself!
This ‘No Ropes Barbed Wire Current Mine Explosion Double Hell Time Bomb Tornado Death-Match’ (maybe the best name ever for a wrasslin’ match) took place on May 5th, 1996 at FMW’s Fighting Creation ‘96 7th Anniversary Show before 33,231 fans at the big show spiritual home of FMW, KawasakiStadium.
What can you say about this match? Just so insane & violent & epic in the best of ways! Everything that the sicko in me loves about Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling (dating back to my days of downloading these matches from limewire & collecting all the FMW VHS tapes I could get my greasy mits on!)
The escalating drama & struggle & suffering & brutality of this is just unmatched. All while telling a story that’s actually quite complex & touching & tragic . Terry’s war on Onita & FMW & taking out that hatred on Onita’s protégés who suffer because of their mentor’s “heart of a chicken” (as so eloquently said by the great man that is the Funker). Hayabusa’s valiant struggle & suffering & heartbreaking loss. The absolutely wonderful promos, the tears, Hayabusa having his mask cut off by Pogo’s sickle! Tanaka being cut to shreds. One of the most satisfying exploding ring detonations that you’ll ever see. And that fire man!!
This match is not for everyone, but for the sickos, this is some of the best weird & wonderful professional wrestling goodness that you’ll ever see!
