MOTW 20: Danielson vs ZSJ

Back again for my “Match of the Week” illustration series & we’ve made it to WEEK 20! Now based off of the last two weeks’ selections, I figured some of you might have picked where I was going with this one. But yes, surprise, surprise! It’s another American Dragon match!! Now whilst this thing is meant to be about variety, it really is a testament to the incredible, all-time run that Danielson has been on of late that we’ve got 3 Dragon matches in a row.

This bout took place on February 11th, at NJPW’s “The New Beginning In Osaka 2024” event at the Osaka EDION Arena/formerly the Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium or "Bodymaker Colosseum" for those in the know.

I think I mentioned on the podcast the other week that I had no idea how these guys could possibly follow their all-time classic from last year in AEW but I guess when you’re this good, that ain’t a thing. Just a fabulous match in every way. 100% the submission wrestling clinic that everyone would expect. It was the really nasty moments of just “mean” violence that I really loved about this though. Akin to sadists like William Regal or Fit Finlay at their best.

This match was just totally awesome! So great to be able to watch two all-time talents at this level doing this stuff before our eyes.
