We’re up to week 16 of my “Match of the Week” art series & whilst I watched some bloody great matches this week, this was the one that took the cake!
This dandy of a match took place on May 16th, 2023 at “Sareee-ISM ~Chapter One” in Shinjuku FACE in Tokyo. This match marked the big return to Japanese Wrestling of one of my long-time Joshi favourites. After a lacklustre run for the “up North” territory (through no fault of her own), Sareee finds herself back in Japan against one of her greatest, long-time foes from Sendai Girls in the fantastic 'Gary Albright-esque' hoss; Chihiro Hashimoto.
This match was just such a breath of fresh air & so satisfying to watch as it felt like Sareee was rediscovering herself (& just what makes her in my opinion the greatest women’s pro wrestler on the planet) as the match goes on. You could almost feel a the Performance Centre “reprogramming” falling by the way side as the match ramped up.
All-in-all some beautiful suplexes, some delightfully stiff strikes & some wonderful, heartfelt professional wrestling. There is a uranage & a german suplex specifically that are both just incredible! Great stuff!!
