Today brings us to the 130th edition of our Chris Things Art 'Match of the Week' illustration series! And this week we travel to one of my wrestling 'happy-places', the wonderful world of early 90s #WorldChampionshipWrestling for a super fun match that I just enjoyed the heck out of!
This nostalgia-soaked gem took place on October 24th, 1993, at WCW's stellar Halloween Havoc '93 Pay-Per-View, at the UNO Lakefront Centre in New Orleans, LA.
So this week upon learning the news of #PsychoSid finally getting into the up-north territory's Hall of Fame, I found myself on a Sid kick. I've long been a fan of the very unique "Master & Ruler of the Universe". There really is nobody quite like him. He was massive, scary, ridiculous & absurdly awesome all at the same time. And when I came upon this match, I was just struck by how wonderfully, quintessentially Sid it was!
This may not be a 5 star classic but i enjoyed the heck out of every second! We get a schmoz-finish & one of the faintest chair shots I've ever seen that would make Lance Storm & Hulk Hogan quiver. But there is still just so much to love! Everything that made Sid so magical is on full display in this one. I also absolutely adored his classically un-eloquent pre-match promos. And how can you not love the good Colonel Robert Parker?
The Stinger was also just so fantastic. I think 1993 may well be the best year of his career. Just the perfect late 80s/early 90s good guy! The overall charisma between these two just leaps off the screen.
It's a rock-em-sock-em robots love-letter to an era of wrestling that is very close to my heart. Dudes rock!
Highly recommended if for nothing else, VIBES! I loved this match!
