Today brings us to the 127th edition of our Chris Things Art 'Match of the Week' illustration series! And this week we have another shockingly recent one that I enjoyed watching oh so much!

This modern day Shoot-Style classic took place under "BattleArts Rules" just last week, on February 28th, at Action Wrestling's Death Valley Days: Road Report event at the TWE Arena in Redbank, Tennessee.

So this thing was just a revelation! An incredibly special match, marked by the coming out of retirement of Shoot-Style legend, Carl Malenko. Carl's first match since 2014 & having last worked a regular Pro Wrestling schedule in 2003! And my gosh if he didn't look absolutely incredible! Head & shoulders above any current Shoot-Style practitioners I can even think of.

This match was amazing from the moment he walked through the curtain to Ted Nugent's "Stranglehold" (which as a Von Erich's fan, just brought back the best nostalgia). This was Shoot-Style to a very high standard. Matt Mako/Makowski was totally fantastic too. Both brought such a level of excitement & urgency that every second demands your full attention focus. I can't remember the last time I watched a match that demands your attention like this one does.

I was so excited when this was first announced & was very hopeful but this totally hit it out of he park & managed to exceed all expectations. As a lover of #BattleArts & of Shoot-Style in general, this match just made me so happy! I cannot say enough good things about it.

Thank you to Phil, Matt, Segunda Caida, Action Wrestling & all involved for bringing this absolute gem of a match into reality! Here is hoping the Carl Malenko comeback continues! HIGHLY recommended!!
