We're up to the 111th edition of our 'Match of the Week' illustration series & this week we travel to the world of 1996 Tokyo Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling for a wild & wooly encounter that is just SO MUCH FUN! This also just happened to be my official favourite match from this past Monday's 'Wrestling Club w/ Chris Things' at The Scratch!
This absolutely tremendous, classic FMW street fight took place on September 24th, on Day 8 of FMW's Flashover '96 tour, before a jam-packed Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.
So this was another one of those "looks awesome on paper" but ends up somehow being even more awesome in execution type deals. I mean looking at it, how was this thing not going to rock in every way possible?!
Four of my top shelf favourites & everyone is just so perfect in it. We have the incredible bad guy gaijin duo of Terry & the Gladiator who create just the best kind of chaos here from start to finish. We get an absolutely spectacular performance that encapsulates everything I love about Hayabusa. An early preview of the all-timer of a career rivalry between Awesome & Tanaka. And of course Terry just being the middle aged & crazy Terry that we all love oh so much!
This is the exact type of match that I absolutely love showing before a bar full of partially unsuspecting regulars that encapsulates the pure magic of Professional Wrestling. ...if you ever had a fascination for Atsushi Onita's highly influential mad genius punk rock phenomenon of a Wrasslin' promotion that was FMW, I'd HIGHLY recommend giving this a watch!
