MOTW 109: Tiger Mask vs Super Porky

We're up to the 109th edition of our illustration series & this week we travel to 1981 Japan for a bite-sized yet great in every way 'Lucharesu' classic!

This thoroughly enjoyable bout between two of my favourites took place at NJPW's 'Bloody Fight Series 1981' tour, on September 17th, at the Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium.

So I was on a bit of an early Tiger Mask kick & came across a few super interesting looking matches against a variety of Lucha legends & this one officially took the cake!

Suffice to say, I have a lot of love for Super Porky. And as we see him here in his slightly less 'porky' days, I can totally understand the reputation that you would hear about Los Brazos having from the El Toreo days as one of the greatest Lucha trios of all time!

This thing only goes like ten minutes but dang if it ain't one of the greatest ten minute matches I've ever seen! Such a crazy hot Osaka crowd. Tiger Mask looking like only Tiger Mask can look & moving like a king fu movie fight scene. Beautiful submission technique from both. Porky's all-around amazing rudo performance - with some of the most enjoyable stooging you ever did see! This was perfect!

I loved this so much & feel that it captures a certain flavour of Professional Wrestling that sadly just doesn't exist anymore. This rocks way hard for what it is & I'd highly recommend it for a watch for anyone who ever wanted to see what all the hype for Tiger Mask is all about. Or anyone intrigued by the Lucha magic of Los Brazos!
