This piece arose from an older, never-before-released sketch that I found the other day from a few years back. I actually quite like it, so decided to finally colour it for you! This was drawn from a fantastic reference photograph that I came across of one of the truly great, often unsung, 1st ballot hall-of-famer tag-teams of Pro Wrestling history.

Al Costello & Roy Heffernan became a truly great heel tag team playing up a xenophobic “Ultra Australian" gimmick to great drawing-success the world over. From Stampede Wrestling in Calgary to the Funks’ Amarillo territory to Championship Wrestling from Florida, Japan, Mexico, The Olympic in Los Angeles and Madison Square Garden.

I’ve read they were even the reason that tag team wrestling is still referred to as “Relevos Australianos” in Mexico to this day!

As a fellow-Aussie, I’m very proud of what these boys accomplished. I also LOVE that they used a boomerang as a foreign object!
