MOTW 148: Zack Sabre Jr vs Uemura
"M.O.T.W. #148: Zack Sabre Jr. vs Yuya Uemura" - ink & digital illustration
Today brings us to the 148th edition of our Chris Things Art 'Match of the Week' illustration series! And this week we get yet another somewhat current pick from just a few weeks back that was a real G1 highlight.
This wonderful display of Pro Wrestling goodness took place on July 19th, 2026; the main event of Day 3 of this years' New Japan's G1 Climax 36 Tournament, up in Sapporo at the Hokkaido Prefectural Sports Center.
So I'm finally getting underway with my 2026 G1 cherry picking & my gosh, like many others, this was certainly my favourite match thus far! I mean it is between two of my current favourites, so no surprise really, but man this was just a total joy to watch. Easily two of the very best of today getting to show what this thing is all about.
I really loved the competitive back and forth of this one. It's crazy to me that in 2026 seeing actual wrestling in pro wrestling can be such a novel concept but it makes me very happy to see that it is still alive & well when you know where to look. The overall skill level here was so impressive! The one-upsmanship & counters & struggle & proper heart on display from the 'Heat-Storm' was just so refreshing to see. Then bringing it up to a fever pitch & finishing on the perfect high-note. THIS is Professional Wrestling baby! HIGHLY recommended!!
So I watched this & created the illustration for this one while away on a little family trip down to Tasmania. Today's our last day in fact. Keeping this thing going while travelling always has its' challenges (I think I finished this at about 2AM last night) but it's still something I always look forward to. Tassie is such an absolutely beautiful place. I'd definitely recommend to all who travel down-under. One of Australia's real treasures. I've included some pictorial highlights. Thanks so much to all who have made us feel so welcome down here!
ENJOY!!
