"M.O.T.W. #121: Ultimo Guerrero vs. Satánico" - ink & digital illustration

Today we're up to the 121st edition of our 'Match of the Week' illustration series. And this week we travel to the wonderful world of early 2000s Arena Mexico for the war of Los Infernáles!

This wonderfully heated grudge match 'Lucha-Brawl' took place on May 11th, 2001 in CMLL, at 'La Catedral De La Lucha Libre', Arena Mexico, CDMX.

So I was on a classic Lucha kick & came across a match between two of my favourite rudos that I'd never actually seen before. And dang, what a pleasant surprise it was!

A key feud of this period was the implosion of one of the all-time great Rudo Lucha factions, Los Infernáles - whereby the long-time leader (Satánico) was ousted from his own group by the young, brash Ultimo Guerrero & Rey Bucanero owing to his disdain for their pal, Tarzan Boy. It's a heck of a feud worth checking out! So here we find ourselves with the lone singles match (that I am aware that footage exists of) between feuding Infernáles leaders. And my gosh it certainly does not disappoint!

Guerrero shows no respect whatsoever for the maestro in the early goings. Just beating him in mercilessly rude fashion. Instantly creating such a tangible crowd sympathy for the older rudo legend. And man, when those Satánico comebacks kick in, we get some of the best, most fiery, passionate Lucha that you ever did see! Amazing punches, reminiscent of Sangre Chicana vs MS-1 that lit up my wrasslin' passions something fierce.

And it just keeps getting better & more intense from there. Of course we do not get a clean finish, but given the heated nature of this rivalry, I don't think anyone would expect such a thing. Start to finish, this thing was just so perfect! Such a magical chemistry between two of the best rudos you ever did see in one of my favourite overall eras of Lucha.

This was AMAZING!

ENJOY!!
