MOTW 118: LA Park vs Rush
"M.O.T.W. #118: LA Park vs. Rush" - ink & digital illustration
Happy New Year! As we roll into 2026, we're now up to the 118th edition of our Chris Things Art 'Match of the Week' illustration series! And this week we travel to Mexico City for the most uncontrollable of 'Lucha Extrema' goodness!
This incredible crimson-soaked wild & wooly Lucha brawl of the highest order took place back on March 11th, 2017 for 'Baracal Entertainment', at the Gimnasio Olimpico Juan de la Barrera in Mexico City, CDMX.
So the other day I found myself revisiting one of my favourite Professional Wrestling rivalries (for an exciting upcoming project in fact!) & I'll be danged if I didn't just go & fall in love with it all over again! I ended up going back and watching all of their classic reckless brawls up to this one & I think this might very well be my favourite.
If you are not already aware of the magic of LA Park vs. Rush, these matches are something that needs to be seen to be believed. Just total, beautiful, uncontrollable chaos! And this one brings it to a next level.
LA Park (the original La Parka) is easily one of my all-time favourite Professional Wrestlers & this match captures exactly the reason why. Even in his older years (& likely many injuries along the way), he just throws it all out there with reckless abandon. We get the Park trademarks, some absolutely insane dives, & one of the greatest spears I've ever seen in my life! And man, once the box of cervesa bottles comes into play, oh my gosh that is seared into my memory for the rest of my days!
This rivalry also brings out the absolute best in El Toro Blanco. This is what makes Rush special. He brings that big time wild rudo energy, takes Park's reckless physicality & turns it up to the next level. These two are just made for one another.
The gritty indie-Lucha environment here really adds to things. The crowd is fantastic. Even the elderly referee really played his part perfectly!
I loved every single moment!
ENJOY!
